Pam Fretwell, Farm Services Director at WKAN was born and raised on the outskirts of Kansas City, Missouri. Pam never imagined she would be a farm broadcaster and would tell the story of farming and agriculture to her urban friends, let alone be a source of information for farmers across the nation. She was raised the daughter of a jeweler and always imagined herself as a "city girl." Attending college, marriage, and living on a farm raising three children with the nearest town having a population of 150 was certainly a change, but one that she learned to love. Pam says she learned everything about farming and agriculture "from the ground up" and says she has the Guinness Record on "stupid questions asked about farming within a lifetime." But those questions paid off as Pam successfully farmed with her husband for 26 years, worked as one of the first Professional Sales Representatives in Pioneer Hi-Bred and would help develop a software program that sales professionals still use today when talking with farmers out in the field. Pam has now been the Farm Services Director with Staradio Corporation for almost eight years on WTAD 930 AM radio in Quincy, Illinois and three years on WKAN 1320 AM radio in Kankakee, Illinois. She has received many awards for "telling the story of agriculture" and considers anyone who eats food or uses energy as one of her target audience. Elected President of the National Association of Farm Broadcasting this past November, Pam will represent Farm Broadcasters from across the country talking about what they do best "telling the story of agriculture." |
