Bill Yohnka

Bill Yohnka is on the move. Hosting the WKAN Morning Show is the latest extension of his commitment to Kankakee. A Kankakee native, Bill wears many hats around the community and always seems to find a way to sniff out the fun and quirky aspects of local life.

“I really feel like this is a great place to live,” says Yohnka, 33. “Part of what I do with the morning show is help people see what makes this such a good place to call home.”

A graduate of Lewis University in Romeoville, Bill got his start in radio hosting a sports show in Watseka back in 2004. In 2008, he joined the WKAN team, hosting the Saturday morning Bill Yohnka Show, which broadened the scope of his program to include local personalities, community interest pieces and original old-style radio drama. He is excited to provide an exciting start to the day for Kankakee area listeners.

Hosting a show on Kankakee’s heritage News/Talk leader is a dream come true for Bill. As he puts it, “Growing up, I always wanted to have a show on WKAN. Now that I do, I plan on having fun and making the most of it.”

In addition to his role at WKAN, Bill Yohnka is the Executive Director of the Kankakee Development Center, Kankakee Chamber of Commerce, Manager of the Kankakee Farmers’ Market and Voice of the Kankakee County Speedway. He and his wife, Jen, are the proud parents of two young boys, Sam and Miles.

Allison Beasley

Listening to Allison Beasley on WKAN, one would think that she has done radio for years. Although WKAN is her first professional radio gig, she got her bachelor’s degree from Eastern Illinois University in Speech Communications with emphasis in Radio and Television.  Born and raised in Kankakee, Allison, when not on-air is Assistant Director at the Kankakee Public Library and also works with the Kankakee Chamber of Commerce.

If you think Allison’s busy life is more than enough to fill one’s social calendar, she is also happily married and a devoted mother of two very active boys.   There are not too many better community advocates in this county than Allison.  “I am so passionate about living and working in Kankakee.  I love the people and the history of this town, but I also am excited for the good things that are going on and the direction that our community is going in.  Kankakee is more than my address…for me, it’s a way of life,” Beasley says of her hometown.   She also enjoys all things Jane Austen, black and white films, and when nothing else is happening she acts as the voiceover for her two dogs.

Tune in to listen to Allison on WKAN Talk AM 1320 weekdays from 6am to 8am and you are guaranteed to be both entertained and educated….well, mostly just entertained.  Even if you don’t get her humor sometimes, her contagious laughter is sure to make you smile.
