Each weekday, a dedicated legion of listeners in the Kankakee region wake up to the heady brew of talk and comedy served up by Mike Tomano and his crew on Talk AM 1320, WKAN. The show takes an innovative approach to local news & talk radio, mixing local news topics with lifestyle, political local and world issues with inspired commentary and a free forum for callers to add to the conversation. A master storyteller, Tomano colors his twisted tales with outlandish impersonations and bizarre characters including the ever-outspoken Helen Montgomery from Chebanse and the charming backwoods poet and philosopher Hamlet Billy. Mike Tomano paints a picture and the airwaves are his canvas, with the result somewhere between Norman Rockwell and Salvador Dali. Over the years, a wide range of celebrities have been a guest on Mike’s radio show, including Samuel L. Jackson, Bob Newhart, Joan Rivers, John Entwhistle of The Who, Ted Nugent, Patti Smith, Henry Rollins, Art Garfunkel, Tom Smothers, Jeff Daniels, Carrot Top, Andy Dick, Charo and many more. Local and national politicians often visit with Mike to discuss important issues. A native of Chicago, Mike honed his craft at Second City Children's Theater, Victory Gardens Theater, Second City E.T.C. and a series of radio gigs to form the impetus of what his show is today, the radio show people are afraid to miss. A two time recipient of the Illinois Association of Broadcasters Silver Dome Award, Mike currently resides in a small town outside of Kankakee in a home once owned by Winnie The Pooh. He spends most of his free time enjoying life with his wife, Denise, and their daughter, Leah. In addition to his radio show, Mike is a writer and public speaker, dedicated to promoting The Great Outdoors Lifestyle to families everywhere. His passions include archery, hunting, hiking, rafting, bicycling and assorted outdoor adventure. Mike is an avid music lover, voracious reader, spiritual seeker, Libertarian and Virgo.
